Meet the Doctors
Sakovits 40
Dr. Carl A. Sakovits is a graduate of the State University of New York, State College of Optometry in New York City. Dr. Carl Sakovits has been providing eye care for over thirty years to residents of the East Bay and beyond from his office at The Bristol County Medical Center.

His practice includes routine eye care, treatment of eye diseases, the fitting of contact lenses, and emergency eye care. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Rhode Island Optometric Association and is certified in the treatment of eye diseases including glaucoma. His training included an externship at The Omni Eye Services of Rhode Island and Cataract Consultants of Rhode Island, both medically oriented referral practices limited to the treatment of eye diseases. Dr. Carl Sakovits was honored with the VOSH International Humanitarian of the Year Award. In addition, he was the first recipient of the SUNY State College of Optometry Alumni of the Year Award. He is also a recipient of the Dr. Max Cohen Memorial Award for outstanding volunteer commitment to community service and the Dr. Louis Herman Memorial Award for dedication and commitment to the Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity. He is also a Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow. He is the founder of the Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity at the SUNY State College of Optometry and the Past President. He also founded The Northeast Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity and has served as President for the past twenty-five years. See Our Giving Back

He has organized and has led over over thirty multi-disciplinary medical missions to Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Panama. He has also volunteered domestically with Remote Area Medical in parts of Tennessee and the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia. He is a past member of The Eye Care Specialty Advisory Committee at Blue Cross / Blue Shield of Rhode Island and The Quality Assurance and Peer Review Committee of Rhode Island Managed Eyecare.

Dr. SakovitsDr. Andy R. Sakovits, the son of Dr. Carl A. Sakovits, is a graduate of the Massachusetts College of Optometry. Upon graduation, Dr. Andy Sakovits was awarded by his professors and peers with the “Clinician of The Year” award.

Dr. Andy Sakovits received extensive training in primary care optometry as well as subspecialties, including contact lenses, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and dry eye. As part of his training, Dr. Andy completed two ocular disease externships at both the Veterans Affairs Hospitals in Providence, RI and Salt Lake City, UT. He also completed an externship in specialty contact lenses to help manage corneal diseases such as keratoconus at Broward Eye Care in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

While in optometry school Dr. Andy served as the president of the Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity where he helped lead mission trips to Nicaragua. Dr. Andy has a passion for helping those in underserved populations and plans to continue his work alongside his father in years to come. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Rhode Island Optometric Association.



Dr. SakovitsDr. Monse Arias-Sakovits, the daughter in law of Dr. Carl A Sakovits, is a graduate of the Massachusetts College of Optometry. She graduated top ten percent of her class after completing a year of clinical rotations in Massachusetts and Florida. Her externship at Eye Centers of South Florida focused on co-management of surgical cases related to conditions like cataracts, retinal diseases, glaucoma and emergency eyecare. She trained with specialty contact lenses at Boston Foundation for Sight, managing conditions of the anterior segment of the eye such as chronic dry eye, corneal dystrophies and keratoconus. She also has extensive training with pediatric population needs and enjoys utilizing her public health knowledge from her masters degree to empower and educate people regarding the impact of systemic conditions on ocular health.
Her passion for healthcare began in her home country of Ecuador and was further pursued at 18 years of age when she moved to Boston to start her professional education. With over 9 years of direct patient interaction she looks forward to meeting you and helping you maximize your visual potential.
